If you've read any of my previous blog updates, it should come as no surprise to you that I can be a bit of a pill. In what I'd like to recognize as an amazing step in self-awareness, I decided to do something about it. And by do something about it, I mean read the American classic How to Win Friends and Influence People. Digging in for a little more of that self awareness I realized that I'm a bit of a jerk. Yup, fact. While I pride myself on generally trying to be a better person, especially since moving to the south, I realize that I'm quintessentially a northern person. Sweet, soft, and southern I am not.
The practicality of implementing some of Dale's advice is dubious (mostly because I got the library original version and not the updated version, so the typewriting, mailed letters, and telegraph examples didn't quite resonate) but I am going to make a concerted effort to be better. Aka, brace yourself as I try to manipulate all of you toward my ways. Because let's face it, that is what the book is all about. And that analysis sums up why I need the book and why I'd be sorted into Slytherin.
TOPIC SWITCH ALERT:
When did Kanken backpacks become a thing? I'm not sure how I feel about them, but I saw them a few months ago and now they are EVERYWHERE. You know something has officially become a thing when it's 1) carried at j.crew and 2) is sold out at j.crew. And to be clear, I LOVE a good backpack, so my reservations are purely form, not function. Stylistically they just don't speak to me.
